Preferred Name: Katie (I will also respond to Casey)
Where did you grow up? Apple Valley
When did you become a member of Mi5 Fitness? December 2018
What do you do when you are not at Mi5? I am the HR Manager for a local PT Clinic here in the Twin Cities. I also like to spend time with my family—I am married to Matt Casey who is also a member here, and I have 1 son who is 11 named Owen. in the winter we snowmobile, and in the summer we go to the cabin almost every weekend.
How did you find out about Mi5? I was interested in trying out CF so I did some research on local gyms. There is one a lot closer to my house, but I liked the schedule that Mi5 offered so I reached out to give it a try!
When/How did you realize CrossFit/Mi5 was the right fit for you? I realized during my onboarding that both CF and Mi5 were for me. I liked the challenge of the WODS/movements, which was way outside of my comfort zone, but I really liked the Mi5 community. People were so welcoming and encouraging right away. Starting at a new gym can be super intimidating, but that did not happen here.
What is your favorite WOD/movement? Deadlifts!
What is your least favorite WOD/movement? Strict presses... gotta get that dip in, even when I am not supposed to!
What would your perfect WOD look like? I really enjoy the WODs that are both a mental and physical challenge-however, if I could put anything in a workout it would be deadlifts, dubs, rope climbs, and toes to bar.
What is one thing you have been able to accomplish since starting at Mi5 that you never thought you'd be able to do? Rope climbs. I set a goal on my 39th birthday to get 1 rope climb by the time I turned 40. I did it less than a month later--so now I want to get 1 strict pull up by December.
What motivates you to stay fit? My family and the Mi5 community.
What is something about you that Mi5 members do not yet know? I love going to concerts. I drag my husband to shows he has no interest in seeing.
What advice would you give to someone just getting started at Mi5? Don't let the word CrossFit be intimidating! Our community is welcoming, helpful, challenging, super fun, and special. The workouts are can be challenging, but we are all in it together!
